Uson needs a break

Mocha Uson is a forefront character in the current administration. She made her name known to the people and garnered millions of followers because of her strong support to President Rodrigo Duterte. Supporters and bashers alike may agree that she gives color to the black and white politics in the government through her constant headliner news and mischiefs.
I am not her follower, but she always catch my attention in almost everything that she does. I find myself in a mixture of emotions whenever she’s on the headlines. Sometimes, she makes me angry. Sometimes, she makes me laugh. Sometimes, it’s both. And sometimes, I find myself agreeing with her.
I know I should not make fun of other people’s mistake, but I am not a righteous person so I admit that I poke fun of her current Mayon Volcano comment. The Mayon eruption issue also led to a Mocha eruption of laughter from her critics, yet there is also a surge of support from her staunch supporters.
Uson’s ignorance about facts has come a long way since she made herself a very visible public persona from the start of the election campaign in 2016. Though I agree that everyone has the right to voice out their opinions and say things they want because of our freedom of expression, I believe that ignorance and fake news should not be tolerated… and Uson always do both.
If there is something that I admire about her, however, it is her noble act of returning her controversial alumni award from the University of Santo Tomas. She, at least, knows when to give up something as priceless as that award for the peace of mind of the general public. Despite the noble act, it led to another headline which proved her ignorance on some subject matters such as where the Mayon Volcano is located.
I think Uson needs a break: a break from too much personal visibility on the media and a break from harsh critics. First, she couldn’t blame anyone for being criticized in such a way since she made herself too visible in public eye. There was no need for her to post that video in the first place. She already returned the award, that should have been the end of it. Let the public’s opinion die a natural death and there’s no need to address the issue any further. She should limit herself and refrain posting publicly about her personal matters if she doesn’t want to be criticized. As a PCOO assistant secretary, she must concentrate on presidential communications and relay messages to the public about government activities, not ranting about people’s point of view on her award as it is a personal matter.
Secondly, she needs a break from those people bullying her. I am not defending her in any way, but maybe it’s time for people to let this issue pass. Her ignorance of the geography does not affect the lives of the Filipino people nor the economic growth of the country. It was just her personal mistake. I laughed at her too, I admit, but I left it at that and this article. As what Uson said, let’s not focus on her alumni award or on her misplaced Mayon mistake, but rather focus more on pressing matters such as Dengvaxia, the Lim-Drilon case and the safety of the people in Albay incase Mount Mayon’s outburst will aggravate further.
Let’s all take a break from Mocha Uson’s explosives and focus more on the actual explosion of Mayon Volcano and other important matters that can affect our country and its people./WDJ
