The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution during its regular session earlier this week calling for Department of Public Works and Highways-Region VI (DPWH-6) Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. and Bacolod City District Engineering Office head, Engr. Abraham Villareal, to strictly monitor delayed projects.
According to the legislation, authored by City Councilor Caesar Distrito, with several road projects throughout the city appearing to be left unattended, DPWH officials must ensure projects follow a time table and comply by deadlines.
“Such practices by contractors should not be taken for granted since it contradicts the goal of the government to deliver quality, safe, and timely infrastructure projects,” the resolution conveyed.
The policy went on to cite a DPWH order that dictates penalties for negligent contractors, including the payment of damages, along with disqualification from both the current project and bidding for future work./PLL, WDJ
