Task Force Kasanag (TFK) National Commander John Chiong recently revealed plans to file libel charges against DYRL Bacolod broadcaster Marlon Solidum, claiming the latter made libelous comments against him and his organization.
In a letter addressed to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), he requested a copy of a program by DYRL, which aired last week, from January 15 to 17.
The TFK official added, the material will be used when he files a formal criminal complaint.
In response, NTC issued a letter to DYRL, last January 19, requesting DYRL Station Manager Diego Obido present a copy of the tape recording to Chiong.
Chiong claimed in a separate letter to the Negros Occidental chapter of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) that Solidum fabricated lies against him in his radio program, saying the broadcaster “went beyond fair and balanced broadcasting, to the extent of ramming the decency and ethics in the field of broadcast journalism.”
He called on the KBP to discipline Solidum.
Watchmen Daily Journal tried contacting Solidum over Chiong’s allegations, but he has yet to respond as of press time.
During the 2016 election, Solidum was a candidate for city council with Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s Grupo Progreso./DGB, WDJ
