After reviewing an autopsy of her brother, Bago City District Jail inmate Reneboy Alvarez, who was allegedly killed during a prison brawl, the prisoner’s sister Liezel Alvarez Villa said she is skeptical over the cause of death.
Villa pointed out, while her brother succumbed to cuts, bruises, and head injuries, she questioned why mud and grass were found in his pants if he died while inside the prison facility, as purported by Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel.
Last week, Alvarez was involved in a fistfight with inmates and was later rushed to Bago City District Hospital after he was found unconscious.
According to the BJMP, Alvarez had been involved in prior fights and was repeatedly transferred between jail facilities throughout the province.
The slain inmate was arrested on charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives, attempted murder, and direct assault.
BJMP continues to investigate the incident./JJA, WDJ
