By Jerome S. Galunan, Jr.

Ceres-Negros FC left for Brisbane, Australia over the weekend, where they will face A-League club Brisbane Roar tomorrow, January 23, in the second preliminary round of the 2018 AFC Champions League qualifying play-offs at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre.

The Negrense club advanced to the second preliminary round after defeating Myanmar National League champions Shan United, 1-1 (4-3) on penalties, last week.

Ceres finished their most recent season as Philippines Football League (PFL) champions, while Brisbane ended their 2016-2017 season in third place, behind Sydney FC and the Melbourne Victory, who both earned automatic berths in the group stage.

However, in the ongoing 2017–2018 A-League season, the Roar are currently eighth on the league table, winning four matches, drawing four, and losing nine. The club is currently coming off a 3-2 win last week over the Perth Glory.

The winner of the match advances to the play-off round, where they will meet Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian FC./JSG, WDJ
