Local labor advocate Wennie Sancho said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has ordered a review of the current wage order following implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.
In an exclusive phone interview yesterday afternoon, he said the law is creating adverse effects on the labor sector as the prices of primary commodities have risen over the past few days.
Sancho said a petition seeking a wage increase of P150 per day will be submitted next week.
He added, the RTWPB will also conduct consultations with both labor and management sectors next month.
The labor advocate earlier announced he would be seeking higher wages for workers due to expected increases on the price of oil products and with transport groups demanding increases to fares.
Sancho claimed the current P323.50 minimum wage is insufficient.
The labor leader also said sugar workers would bear the brunt of the TRAIN Law, claiming sugar prices are too volatile, which may eventually lead to the demise of sugar planters./DGB, WDJ
