With Bacolod City College (BCC) under consideration for accreditation, a requirement before being eligible to provide free tuition under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Law, Bacolod City Councilor Renecito Novero yesterday affirmed the recent resignation of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chair Patricia Licuanan will not affect the process.
“I see no relationship between the [resignation] and the accreditation,” he insisted.
Novero chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on education.
President Rodrigo Duterte approved the law last year, which provides free tuition at state colleges and universities.
Last November, the SP passed a resolution urging CHED to fast-track the accreditation for BCC, which was established in 1997.
Prior to that, Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya reported all pertinent paperwork for accreditation was sent last June and he is currently in the process of providing follow-up paperwork./NC, WDJ
