Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. yesterday reiterated calls for mechanization in the sugar industry.
While speaking before officers and personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) at the Provincial Capitol, yesterday, the governor noted recent large scale developments have pushed sugar workers to take advantage of new opportunities in construction and information technology.
He noted, some are working at farms overseas.
The governor said laborers sent to Negros Occidental from other provinces are not enough to account for the lack of manpower.
“The only answer is partial mechanization,” Marañon affirmed./DGB, WDJ
