Aklan lone district Rep. Carlito Marquez recently expressed hope his province will undergo redistricting this year, as the bill seeking such a process had earlier been re-filed and may undergo deliberation before the end of next month.
The bill, House Bill 4670, was re-submitted back in December 2016 and has since been before the House Local Government Committee.
The bill seeking to divide the province into two congressional districts was previously submitted by Marquez’ predecessors Reps. Teodorico Haresco, Jr. and Florencio T. Miraflores, who currently serves as Aklan governor.
The bill claims the province has exceeded the constitutional criteria on creating a new congressional district, which requires a minimum population of 250,000 per district./PLL, WDJ
