The Bacolod City Regional Trial Court-Branch 52 and Branch 47 yesterday sentenced two women to life behind bars after being found guilty on drug-related offenses.
According to a report by TV Patrol-Negros, Branch 52 Judge Raymond Joseph Javier sentenced Maria Christina Cepeda to reclusion perpetua after being caught attempting to sell illegal drugs in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City back in May 2014.
Cepeda said she plans to appeal the decision before the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Branch 47 Judge Therese Blanche Bolunia sentenced Racquel Young Figueroa to life imprisonment after being arrested for illegal drugs back in October 2011. She was also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000.
Figueroa, in contrast to Cepeda, stated she would not be seeking an appeal.
In addition, Javier found Jocelyn Magbanua guilty of violating RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, following her arrest in February 2014.
Magbanua has been in jail for the past four years and will be transferred to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City to serve the remaining 12 to 17 years of her sentence./DGB, WDJ
