In light of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law, which has reportedly seen prices on various goods increase due to implemented excise taxes, the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution during their regular session yesterday calling for price monitoring on basic and prime commodities.
According to the resolution, authored by City Councilor Em Ang, reports claim local businesses have been increasing prices following the ratification of the said law.
The legislation seeks to “protect the consuming public from exorbitant, unreasonable and excessive price increases.”
Since passage of the law, the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) has warned of impending power rate increases, labor groups have demanded pay raises, and transport groups are calling for fare hikes./PLL, WDJ
