The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution during their regular session yesterday calling on the city’s Urban Basic Services division to implement the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), a program created by the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
PPAN 2017-2022 is a program that seeks to end malnutrition.
According to the NNC, while good nutrition begins at home, the government is also available to provide such assistance.
“Attainment of nutritional well-being is a main responsibility of families but government and other stakeholders have the duty to assist those who are unable to enjoy the right to good nutrition,” the council noted in a presentation about the said program.
The resolution, penned by City Councilor Em Ang, pointed out the issues of undernutrition and over-nutrition, both types of malnutrition, which could result in health issues for children under five years old, including vitamin A deficiency; anemia; iodine deficiency disorders; and, in terms of over-nutrition, obesity./PLL, WDJ
