Moises Padilla Vice Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo, who was imprisoned, alongside her husband Felix Mathias Yulo, on charges of illegal possession of explosives, was released from the Moises Padilla Police Station detention center last Saturday; however, she expressed her bewilderment after finding out the order was issued on December 29, 2017.
“I do not know if it [was] typographical error or what [that] caused the delay,” she said in a phone interview.
The vice mayor added, she was happy to be released but was still confused about why an order issued on December 29 was executed on January 5.
According to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, the release does not impact the preliminary investigation into the charges filed against the couple.
Earlier, Garcia- Yulo and her husband were arrested by Moises Padilla municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Alan Reloj, at a checkpoint. The police chief went on to file charges of illegal possession of explosives following the recovery of two hand grenades and two sachets of suspected shabu, as well as three firearms.
Garcia-Yulo admitted to owning one of the recovered pistols, but claimed the other two firearms, the grenades, and drugs were planted.
The alleged illicit substance, when subjected to tests, turned out negative.
Meanwhile, Task Force Kasanag (TFK) also called the delay into question, with TFK national commander John Chiong saying he will bring the matter before the Department of Justice.
“It’s unfortunate that they spent their new year at the detention,” he said.
The vice mayor’s family earlier sought the assistance of the organization./DGB, WDJ
