A 49-year-old man was arrested for illegal gambling at Sitio Pangyasan in Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Treno Gallego, a resident of Purok Eucalyptus in the said barangay, was nabbed during Kabankalan City police raid while holding a fighting cock with a steel gaff, or the blade used for gamecock, attached its right leg.

According to Kabankalan City Police Station, witnesses claimed 50-year-old Noe ‘Nonoy’ Alunsagay, who escaped during the raid, organized illegal cockfighting events and Cara Y Cruz, an illegal numbers game.

Recovered from the raid were fighting cocks, bet money reportedly from Cara Y Cruz, and a round concrete cement and steel gaff.

As of press time, Gallego is currently detained in the custodial facility of the Kabankalan City Police Station, while Alunsagay remains at large./NC, WDJ
