A police officer was shot and killed by the security guard of a beach resort in Barangay Miranda, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

The fatality was identified as Police Officer 2 (PO2) Britches Talapiero, who was assigned to Police Station 5 in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City.

Based on initial investigations by the Hinigaran Municipal Police Station, an argument occurred between a group led by Rutchy Talapiero, the officer’s brother, and another customer, identified as Leslie John Dojillo, while at a beach resort.

Rutchy later sought the assistance of Britches.

As Dojillo approached the cottage the group was occupying, he was shot twice in the back by the police officer. As the assailant tried to flee the scene, the cop was then shot by resort security guard Joey Belenario.

According to Belenario, the police officer allegedly reached for his gun, which prompted the security guard to fire.

PO2 Talapiero was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Belenario is currently detained at the Hinigaran Municipal Police Station after he voluntarily surrendered with his shotgun and the police officer’s suspected service firearm.

Dojillo, meanwhile, was brought to the hospital for medical treatment./NC, W
