The Negros Occidental Office of the Governor yesterday issued a warning to the public over alleged extortion activities being committed by an unknown group.
According to Eric Loretizo, executive assistant to Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., they have received reports of Tagalog-speaking individuals collecting donations across Negros Occidental, claiming to be associated with the governor’s anti-drug campaign.
The group also reportedly entices gas station owners to donate in exchange for projects from the provincial government.
The executive assistant noted, using the name of the governor’s office is illegal and the public must be made aware of the bogus operation.
He also provided copies of text messages showing the alleged ‘budol-budol’ operation.
Loretizo advised the public, if they receive such messages, contact their nearest police station or the governor’s office at (034) 434-1152 to 53./DGB, WDJ

A resolution passed the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) during its regular session yesterday calling on city residents to observe the ongoing National Zero Waste Month, which takes place throughout January.
Based on Presidential Proclamation No. 760, issued by former President Benigno S. Aquino III, the resolution, penned by City Councilor Em Ang, echoed the objective of the occasion, promoting “environmental awareness and action among the citizenry.”
According to proclamation, “zero waste” is defined as “An advocacy that promotes designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials.”
During past observances, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources hosted photo exhibits and lectures regarding solid waste management./PLL, WDJ
