Intensified information campaign sought for Cancer Consciousness Week

The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution in its regular session yesterday, calling on the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) to support the Autism Consciousness Week, which takes place in the third week of January.
The resolution, penned by City Councilor Em Ang, quoted Presidential Proclamation No. 711, submitted by former President Fidel V. Ramos, noting, “The growing incidence of autism among Filipinos necessitates more people from different sectors to become aware of this disability.”
The legislation further drew from the proclamation, saying, “The growing number of autistic persons has spawned the need for early diagnosis, therapy, and education intervention.”
In previous years, the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) has hosted forums, art workshops, and the Angels Walk for Autism during the week-long observance.
In addition, a separate resolution also passed seeking an intensified information dissemination campaign by the CHO in light of National Cancer Consciousness Week, which falls on the same week as Autism Consciousness Week.
The legislation, also penned by Ang, pulled from Presidential Proclamation No. 1348, issued by former President Ferdinand Marcos, calling for the observance to “arouse public awareness on the dangers of this dreaded disease and on cancer prevention.”/PLL, WDJ
