Tropical Depression Agaton: Classes in Capiz suspended due to flooding

Heavy flooding caused by Tropical Depression Agaton forced Capiz Governor Tony del Rosario to suspend classes yesterday. According to Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Esperidion Pelaez, 111 of the 473 barangays across the province experienced flooding, with six reporting subsiding waters as of Tuesday afternoon.
Based on recent data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Region VI (RDRRMC-6), the storm has displaced 6,107 families across Panay, mostly in the provinces of Capiz and Aklan.
Meanwhile, Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region VI (DSWD-6) Director Rebecca Geamala said 18,000 food packs were available for the relief effort.
Last month, Tropical Storm Urduja forced around 675 families to evacuate. RDRRMC-6 and Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) also reported around 850 families across Panay were affected by the storm.
Along with Capiz, three municipalities in Biliran also suspended classes yesterday./PLL, WDJ
