A driver and two passengers were killed in a collision involving a jeepney and tricycle along the national highway in Barangay 9, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
The fatalities were identified as 56-year-old Edgar Capinig, the driver of the tricycle; alongside 41-year-old teacher Liezel Garsula and 20-year-old student Roselle Bartolome.
Kabankalan City Police Station traffic investigator, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Jecon Nermal, said the jeepney, driven by 35-year-old Fernando Mahilom, was headed towards Mabinay Road when it bumped the tricycle as the latter was executing a left turn.
The tricycle driver and his passengers were brought to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries, but all were declared dead on arrival.
As of press time, Mahilom is temporarily detained at the Kabankalan City Police Station after he voluntarily surrendered.
According to Mahilom, the tricycle made a sudden left turn as the operator was apparently not using his blinker to signify his intent to make a turn.
The families of the victims are considering vehicular manslaughter charges against Mahilom./NC, WDJ
