The second flyover set to open in Bacolod City is a laudable effort by the city’s elected officials.
However, maximum utilization of the flyover (which cost a large sum of taxpayer money) depends on the traffic plan designed by city traffic authorities – trial and error is not acceptable for this matter. With the flyover ready for presentation, a near-perfect traffic plan should have already been presented; the public should be aware of traffic patterns with the addition of the flyover.
Traffic authorities have no reason to experiment.
Last December, traffic authorities boasted a re-routing plan in Barangay Mandalagan, which they stopped after one day after it turned out to be a fiasco. They executed another re-routing scheme and it, again, failed. The new flyover offers another challenge. The public will be able to observe the “traffic brains” at work, especially since no traffic advisories were released prior to the structure’s opening.
Given past events, motorists pity city leadership for their failure in successfully solving the traffic issue.
With the vehicle density in December, where is traffic re-routed to? Officials need to open their books and think of a solution – as the saying goes: “If you are not part of the solution, you must be part of the problem.”
In life, problems lie with people who believe they can take care of everything without the help of others. Why? Could it be they do not want to be overshadowed by others? That is not leadership or professionalism; it is selfishness and greed.
