While speaking before the recent 2017 Information Officers Conference, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director-General Harold Clavite said sharing information is part of Filipino culture.
“The desire, passion, and intent to share information is seemingly inherent in the Filipino psyche,” he asserted.
“That’s why responsible sharing of information has become an important advocacy for me and, of course, our agency,” Clavite explained. “We are in authority to educate the public concerning the pros and cons on using social media and the internet.”
He said an information officer’s job includes supporting groups in communicating government programs, policies, and services to the general public.
The PIA director-general also called “fake news” the “challenge of our times.”/WDJ
