Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. recently signed a memorandum of agreement with University of St. La Salle (USLS) president and chancellor, Bro. Joaquin Severino Martinez, and Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Schools Division Superintendent for Negros Occidental Gladys Amylines Sales to provide 1,122 scholarships to USLS, as part of the Project Flagships to Reach Educational Excellence (FREE) Paglaum program.

The program will provide a P28 million grant for teachers in masters and doctoral programs, while the school will offer 122 free slots for eligible teacher-scholars.

Marañon said he hopes to continue the program, saying, as long as there are public school teachers who are willing to avail of the program, the government will not stop allocating funds./DGB, WDJ
