Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III recently issued an executive order mandating all city bars, restaurants, night clubs, and the like to close at 2:00 a.m. on a nightly basis.
“The unregulated dispensation of liquor and other intoxicating drinks, even during [the] wee hours of the morning and daytime, [results] in improper and harmful conduct and behavior of consumers,” the order read.
The development comes after an incident last week at nightlife hotspot, the Smallville Complex, located in the city’s Mandurriao district, where 24-year-old Rey Myr Tan was shot and killed.
Beyond the shooting, the mayor noted the need for more precautions with upcoming events for the holiday season, along with the Dinagyang Festival in January./WDJ
