The Iloilo City Council for the Protection of Children recently revealed the Most Outstanding Child-Friendly Barangay 2017 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, naming both Barangay Veterans Village and the City Proper district as the winners.
“The most important thing that we must do is to make the children feel important,” said Barangay Veterans Village Captain John Eric David. “We need to show them our support through activities which will train them how to be better individuals.”
Barangay Veterans Village was also awarded Best in Survival and Best in Protection.
Barangay Airport, which came in second place, was named Best in Development, alongside the Mandurriao district; while Barangay Balabago and the Jaro district won for Best in Participation.
“We are so proud of these child-friendly barangays,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III. “This is the best time for us to make ways to assess and monitor how barangays work in complying with the projects for the children.”
Winners were based on standards set by the Department of the Interior Local Government (DILG)./WDJ
