Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region VI (DENR-6) Director Jim Sampulna recently recommended the Department of Tourism-Region VI (DOT-6) and the Malay municipal government rescind permits for Boracay hotels, resorts, and restaurants that violate environmental policies.

The DENR Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and the Community Environment Office-Boracay (CENRO-Boracay) issued notices to 12 establishments after it was discovered pipes were being illegally connected to storm drains, which are supposed to be utilized to collect rainwater.

He said the continued practice will “worsen water pollution.”/WDJ
