The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently released Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Joshua Barile after the court approved his petition of habeas corpus, which will bring the matter before a judge to determine if his detainment was lawful.
In a radio report by RMN-DYHB Bacolod, Judge Fernando Elumba approved the petition filed by Barile’s wife, claiming, since his arrest in September of this year, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has yet to resolve the case.
The case pertains to charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosives filed against him after his home in Barangay Alijis was raided by the NBI and members of the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG).
Barile claimed the firearms seized by authorities were turned over to his custody by the court as the police vault was full.
He also denied the grenade and the sachet of shabu recovered in his home belonged to him.
Barile is also facing murder raps after being accused of killing the brother and father of former Berya drug group member Ricky Serenio
Serenio, meanwhile, is on the run after he was involved in an alleged shooting incident in Barangay Mandalagan earlier this month./DGB, WDJ
