Retired police chief, driver wounded in Cauayan shooting

A retired police chief and his driver were wounded in a shooting at the Bulata Pier Complex in Barangay Bulata, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Thursday night.
The victims were identified as Rey Mendoza and retired Dinagat Island Provincial Police Office director, Police Senior Superintendent Inocentes Capuno.
Following an initial investigation, Mendoza and Capuno exited their Toyota Innova when they were shot at with 12-gauge shotguns.
The victims managed to take cover inside the vehicle.
Mendoza sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, while Capuno suffered minor injuries.
The vehicle, meanwhile, incurred seven gunshot holes.
The Cauayan Municipal Police Station is currently conducting a follow-up and hot pursuit operation against the suspects./NC, WDJ
