Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) officer-in-charge, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, confirmed the Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently considering the procurement of body cameras for police officers, which are believed to offer transparency and accountability following operations.
The BCPO chief said he is considering lobbying for the technology; however, he noted, the BCPO does not have the funding for such an investment and would need assistance from the city government.
Earlier this year, the PNP announced they would be purchasing a total 175,000 body cameras, in response to negative public sentiment following the deaths of teenagers Kian Loyd Delos Santos and Carl Angelo Arnaiz in Metro Manila.
Aside from body cameras, the PNP said they are fully prepared to bring members of the local media in order to document police operations./DGB, WDJ
