Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. spoke during the 2017 Palarong Panlalawigan opening ceremonies yesterday at the Panaad Park and Stadium, where he emphasized the event is more than just winning.
“This competition is not merely an avenue for you to show bravery and skills, but an ideal place to foster camaraderie and friendship,” he said.
“A good sport means not just [being] a good winner, but also [being] a good loser,” the governor added. “Show courtesy, even in the face of defeat.”
Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor also spoke during the event, saying, “It is in this field where great potential and talented young athletes [are] discovered and developed [for] international standard competition.”
