After picking up two medals at the recent 2017 IWF World Weightlifting Championships, which took place in Anaheim, California in the United States, the Philippine weightlifting team is looking ahead to the 2018 Asian Games, scheduled to begin in August of next year and co-hosted by Indonesian cities Jakarta and Palembang.

Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz picked up a silver and bronze medal in the 53 kg division; while Kristel Macrohon, who was making her world championship debut, came in fifth overall in the 69 kg division.

Philippine Weightlifting Association President Monico Puentevella said he looks forward to adding Dessa de los Santos, Elreen Anne Ando, and Elien Rose Perez to the Asian Games roster.

Perez earlier took home three gold medals at the 2017 Asian Senior Cup Weightlifting Championships, which took place in Yanggu, South Korea last month./JSG, WDJ
