Following last month’s ceremony where the winners of the annual Huwaran nga Anak, which recognizes contributions by young members of the community in strengthening relationships in the family, community and nation-building, were revealed, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III discussed the award’s significance on the local community.

“The search for Huwaran nga Anak is one way to honor outstanding students who are continuously striving to succeed in life, despite the challenges,” he said recently.

The mayor went on to call recipients an “inspiration to the youth.”

This year’s winner was Fort San Pedro National High School (FSPNHS) Grade 12 student Jolina Legore of the City Proper district of Iloilo City, who won P21,000. Meanwhile, Ryan Jay Soriano of Iloilo City National High School won second place and took home P14,000; and  Don Dino Claud of FSPNHS came in third and won P10,000.

The awards were given out as part of the National Children’s Month observance./WDJ
