With the Revolutionary Government (RevGov) group recently convening a general assembly at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel, calling for a revolutionary government to be put into place, claiming it would accelerate the changes President Rodrigo Duterte promised during his presidential campaign, Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez yesterday said such a declaration is still a distant reality.
“That is still far away, especially with the Senate being amenable to constitutional amendments,” he explained. “There is ongoing progress in Congress with regard to a change to the form of government.”
Last month, however, Benitez noted, with both chambers of Congress currently handling several pending bills, along with impeachment proceedings for Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, the time frame to discuss the transition to federalism is diminishing.
Recently, RevGov-6 chair, Ricardo Noble, Sr., who runs small town lottery operation Southern Shores Gaming Corporation, said a revolutionary government will provide the president with the authority to speed up the implementation of policies intended to improve the country, which, he pointed out, included the eradication of graft and corruption, along with waging the ongoing war against criminality./PLL, WDJ
