Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo yesterday revealed, following the breakdown of peace talks between the government and the Com
munist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front (CPP-NDF), there are concerns surrounding a potential resurgence of the New People’s Army (NPA) Special Partisan Unit (SParU), considered to be hitmen for the rebel group.
Ebreo said there is currently no impending threat, nor any indication there is ongoing SParU activity in the city, but he said the BCPO will not be letting their guard down.
He also stressed, despite the withdrawal of around 100 Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) personnel, who were deployed to Bacolod City during the MassKara Festival last October, police visibility will continue to be heightened, especially in the downtown area, to pre-empt criminality.
The BCPO chief assured the public the BCPO will continue trying its best to make Bacolod City safe./DGB, WDJ
