Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz recently picked up one silver and one bronze medal in the ongoing 2017 IWF World Weightlifting Championships in Anaheim, California in the United States, scheduled to run until December 5 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Diaz won silver in the clean and jerk event; earning an overall bronze medal in the 53 kg division.

“Two [medals] in a day, Mabuhay!” said Philippine Weightlifting Association President Monico Puentevella. “With Diaz’s win, let’s look forward [to] the Asian Games next year in Indonesia, and [the] Tokyo Olympics 2020.”

Sopita Tanasan of Thailand swept all three gold medals in the division.

During the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, where Diaz won her silver medal, Tanasan competed in the 48 kg events, one weight class below the Filipino lifter’s division, and won gold.

Meanwhile, another Filipino weightlifter, Kristel Macrohon, is scheduled to compete today./JSG, WDJ
