By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital-Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Team (CLMMRH-HACT) will conduct outreach activities in observance of the World AIDS day today.
CLMMRH-HACT Nurse Emmanuel Gaston Rectra II said they have scheduled activities in Hinigaran for individuals who are HIV-positive.
Rectra noted, they will also conduct lectures for HIV outpatients, along with an address to PhilHealth members regarding treatment benefits.
He also released data from the Department of Health (DOH) Epidemiology Bureau, gathered between July to August of this year, which revealed 31 new HIV-related cases are recorded throughout the country every day.
Most of those who are infected are males, at 95 percent; while the median age was found to be 27 years old.
The data also showed more than half of the cases recorded were from the 25-to-34 year age group, while 31 percent were of the 15-to-24 year age group.
Recently, the DOH regional office in the Western Visayas reported there are two HIV cases recorded in the region every day.
Currently, there are 1,904 people who have been diagnosed as HIV-positive since June of this year, with 64 males and one female testing positive in one month alone; 580 of which are from Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, the percentage for Region 6 on newly-diagnosed cases is currently six percent./DGB, WDJ
