Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) Chairman Martin Diño yesterday said the group may file an impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
In an interview yesterday with Watchmen Daily Journal, Diño said VACC lawyers are building a case and are expected to forward the complaint before the House of Representatives.
The VACC chairman stated the delay in the movement of cases against alleged corrupt officials and the grave abuse of authority in the handling of the Mamasapano Massacre are grounds for impeachment.
“[The Ombudsman] downgraded the Mamasapano case,” Diño said, pointing the usurpation of authority charges filed against former President Benigno S. Aquino III. “Where did you see the Ombudsman file an administrative case against the president of the Philippines?”
Back in October, President Rodrigo Duterte said he wanted Morales impeached after the Ombudsman refused to back down on their probe against Duterte and his family’s bank accounts.
Duterte also accused Morales of practicing selective justice and using falsified evidence, referring to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) documents, which were in the Ombudsman’s possession./DGB, WDJ
