The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed during its regular session yesterday, a resolution seeking to develop the Comprehensive Local Juvenile Justice Intervention Program (CLJJIP), which would create a framework for how the city responds to the needs of the youth and to assist the local Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC).
The resolution, authored by City Councilor Em Ang, cites RA 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, which created the JWWC.
The law outlines the functions of the body, including periodically developing a comprehensive three to five-year national juvenile intervention program, coordinating the implementation of juvenile intervention programs and activities by national government agencies, formulating and recommending policies and strategies in consultation with children for the prevention of juvenile delinquency, among other duties.
The policy also cites Section 13, Article II of the Philippine Constitution.
“The state recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building,” the resolution quoted. “It shall inculcate in the youth, patriotism and nationalism.”/PLL, WDJ
