The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution during their regular session yesterday, urging city residents to follow regulations on firecrackers and other polytechnics, as dictated by RA 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, and use of such items.
The resolution, written by City Councilor Em Ang, says the measure is intended for the “protection and promotion of the right to health of the people.”
“Firecrackers contain sulfur, charcoal, and other materials, which form greenhouse gases when the same materials [react] with other oxidants in the atmosphere,” the document noted. “Dust from fireworks and pyrotechnics can affect the lungs and pose a real danger to people who suffer from illnesses of the respiratory system.”
Earlier, officials from the Bacolod City government, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bacolod City Police Office, and the Department of Trade and Industry reiterated city regulations on firecrackers, including the designated selling area for such products being at the rear of the Pope John Paul II tower, located along Rizal Avenue Extension in the reclamation area./PLL, WDJ
