According to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, a new Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director was appointed after Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, reassigned former BCPO acting director, Police Superintendent Roderick Minong, to the Regional Public Safety Battalion-Region VI (RPSB-6), following recent New People’s Army (NPA) attacks in Antique and Iloilo.
During a recent press conference, the mayor called the move an “emergency situation” and called Minong’s short stint at the post, “satisfactory.”
It was recently reported Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo would serve as his successor, who Leonardia expects to focus on fighting criminality, drugs, and “creating a sense of security.”
Ebreo is expected to function as officer-in-charge, while the mayor awaits a list of candidates to operate as “permanent police director.”
When pressed on possible changes to BCPO deployment, Leonardia replied, “If it’s not broken, why would you fix it?”
The newly-appointed BCPO officer-in-charge previously led the Regional Intelligence and Detection Management Division-Region VI (RIDMD-6) and was also noted as one of the top police officials who led last year’s manhunt operation against Ronnie Dayan, the alleged drug bagman and former bodyguard to Senator Leila de Lima./DGB, WDJ
