Suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked a quarry site late Sunday evening in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
According to 1st Negros Island Geographical Battalion commander, Lt. Colonel Antonio Tumnog, around 12 suspected NPA rebels were involved in the attack, where employees were forced to give up their mobile phones.
The rebels then detonated an explosive device at the site, destroying a backhoe owned by Barangay Kagawad Raquel Siguero.
Tumnog added, damages amounted to around P200,000, with no harm reported to any of the employees.
The NPA attack was the third in the region within one week, after NPA rebels conducted an ambush on police in Iloilo and Antique./DGB, WDJ
