Around 3,000 cyclists took part in the 3rd Tour of the Fireflies over the weekend, which advocated for clean air, preserving wildlife, and promoting road discipline.
The event was organized by the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), in partnership with the Firefly Brigade, which advocates for cycling as a sustainable form of transportation, along with the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).
“Aside from promoting DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) flagship programs, PENRO of Negros Occidental is actively supporting activities that lead to advocacies for the environment,” said PENRO Edgardo Rostata, who also took part in the bike ride.
“We believe that a healthy environment equates to healthier people,” noted Firefly Brigade officer Erik Vergara.
Meanwhile, according to PEMO Wilfred Ramon Peñalosa, the event was also a part of Provincial Wildlife Awareness Month./WDJ
