The 2017 Barangay Mansilingan Annual Fiesta Team Chess Tournament, which took place over the weekend at A.L. Jayme Elementary School, saw a total 149 take part in the contest, with organizers saying many local players needed to rest after the 2017 Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) chess competition.
“Most of the age-group players in Bacolod were worn out after the recently-held NOPSSCEA chess competitions,” said Mansilingan Chess Society president, Engr. Nestor Cena. “They [deserve] the needed rest to recover.”
The provincial competition took place earlier this month at the STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) library.
A total 68 took part in the open division, while another 81 competed in the 14U category.
It was previously reported, the 14U division was to be further divided into 10 and Under, 11-12 year old, and 13-14 year old categories./JSG, WDJ
