Maasin municipal police chief, Police Senior Inspector Felix Alyansa, revealed the New People’s Army (NPA) unit that conducted an attack on police officers in the municipality’s Barangay Bolo last week, is the same group that stormed the Maasin Municipal Police Station last June.
In a radio interview over the weekend, Alyansa claimed the group is said to be constantly on the move, circling the mountains between Iloilo and Antique.
He also believes the unit conducted the ambush in Sibalom, Antique last week, which left three police officers wounded.
Last Friday, one police officer was killed, while several others were wounded, after they were ambushed by NPA rebels in the town of Maasin.
The fatality was identified as Police Officer 1 (PO1) Jofer Odon, while the wounded were identified as PO1s Vincent Ysay, Noli Talento, Rolanda Lozada, Joy Melvin Polce, Kim Aliver Coronel, Mark Paul Banquillo, Eduard Infante, Jr., Joseph Gonzales, April Rey Ansag, Kit Delihiro, and Marlon Yanson Arbuis.
According to Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) spokesperson, Police Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, the involved police officers are all members of the Regional Public Safety Battalion-Region VI (RPSB-6)./DGB, WDJ
