The short film “Pang-agda sa Kadulom (Invitation to Darkness),” produced by peer helpers of the Guimbal National High School Teen Center, was declared the winner of the 2nd Information Education Campaign sa Sine contest, an event put on by the Iloilo Provincial Population Office, during a ceremony earlier this week at the Zarraga covered gym.
The film, which advocates awareness and prevention of depression, won P10,000 and a trophy for the achievement.
“The concept of the film is more on experiential learning,” said Guimbal National High School head teacher, Dr. Rodrigo Basco, Jr.
“We asked students how they experienced depression and how did they react [to] it,” Basco explained. “We then came up with a very simple, silent short film with one actress – no script, only expressions and symbolism to convey our message.”
The winning piece also picked up Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Editing honors.
The Dumangas National High School Teen Center took second place with their film “Marasmas,” which also won Best Actor; while third place went to “Sa Tuwid na Daan” by the Oton National High School Teen Center, who also took home Best Cinematography.
In other awards, “Ang Hugot sang Sapatos,” by Zarraga National High School, garnered the People’s Choice Award and Best Screenplay; while “Hanot,” by Banate National High School, won Best Poster./WDJ
