The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed, during its regular session earlier this week, a resolution requesting the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to ‘fast track’ accreditation for Bacolod City College (BCC).
The legislation, penned by City Councilor Caesar Distrito, seeks accreditation after the passing of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education law, which provides free tuition at state colleges and universities.
In order to be eligible for the free tuition benefit, BCC, which was founded in 1997, must attain CHED accreditation.
Back in August of this year, Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya reported all pertinent paperwork for accreditation was sent last June and he is currently in the process of providing follow-up paperwork.
According to the resolution, BCC staff have already submitted all necessary requirements, with the commission having conducted an inspection of the school last month.
At the time the law passed, four Negros schools were eligible to provide free tuition, namely, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Central Philippines State University, Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, and Negros Oriental State University./PLL, WDJ
