The annual Campaign to End Violence Against Women observance kicks off today, November 24, with a forum in Talisay City focused on human rights and the pillars of the criminal justice system.
The event takes place at the Talisay City Plaza covered court beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will be preceded by a caravan that will travel through various local government units.
500 female leaders, along with gender and development advocates, are expected to attend.
Provincial Council for Women chair, Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si, will lead the program, which will also feature Commission on Human Rights regional director, Atty. David Bermudo, and Anti-Trafficking Legal Advocates Society (ATLAS) president, Atty. Arnel Sigue.
“We feel there is a need to remind our fellow Negrenses about the need to continue calling for the respect, promotion, protection, and fulfillment of human rights, especially of women and children, as part of our democracy and humanity,” said Si.
The observance runs for 18 days, with other events, including a Women’s Bazaar at Talisay City Plaza, scheduled to take place./WDJ
