The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) released a statement yesterday morning condemning the recent attack by the New People’s Army (NPA) on police officers in Sibalom, Antique, calling it an “act of terrorism.”
According to BCPO spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, the rebel group continues to pose a threat to Region 6, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police or military.
“We have to help one another in order to attain peace and order in our country,” she added.
NOPPO, meanwhile, posted tarpaulins at various police stations across the province condemning NPA atrocities, especially with regard to civilians.
The provincial police are also urging the public to rise up and say ‘No to the NPA.’
Earlier this week, three members of the Sibalom municipal police were wounded following an attack conducted by NPA rebels.
While serving as a response team after a reported NPA attack on a detachment of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), their police vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED)./DGB, WD
