In response to a call for repairs to the Iloilo Terminal Market, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III emphasized the need to manage traffic in the structure’s vicinity in order to further organize the general area.
“We will address the traffic [at the Iloilo Terminal Market] and provide parking lots for vehicles,” he explained. “We will clear the area along Rizal Street so that the vendors will have [an] organized area to sell their products and, at the same time, the customers can conveniently buy the things they need.”
The mayor also pointed out the congestion that develops from public utility vehicles stopping and picking up passengers at the market, particularly during rush hour.
Last month, Espinosa ordered the removal of illegal structures, which included kiosks selling ‘ukay-ukay,’ or second-hand clothing retailers, from Iloilo City’s Jaro Plaza.
Following an inspection of the area, the mayor observed kiosks were “causing hindrance to pedestrians as well as motor vehicles,” which he said eventually results in traffic congestion.
A similar order was later issued for the city’s Mandurriao Plaza./PLL, WDJ
