The La Carlota city government recently issued a cease order against a Roxol Bioenergy Corporation ethanol plant, following complaints from residents reporting a “foul and obnoxious odor.”
A executive order issued last week by Mayor Luis Jalandoni temporarily suspended the company’s permit to operate.
The La Carlota City Legal Office, the La Carlota City Police Station, the City Health Office, and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) are all tasked with ensuring the order is enforced.
Meanwhile, the La Carlota City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) and the local Liga ng mga Barangay also passed resolutions recommending the temporary closure of the plant.
In order for the suspension to be lifted, the company must reduce the foul odor to a level compliant with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Watchmen Daily Journal tried to contact officials from the Roxol Bioenergy Corporation over the said order, however, they have yet to respond as of press time./DGB, WDJ
