In light of the ongoing hostilities being lobbed at Panay Electric Company, Inc. (PECO), Iloilo City’s electricity provider, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III, who earlier acknowledged an array of consequences if a national government takeover of the local power distributor were to occur, said he is open to proposals from investors regarding electricity.
“Investors are most welcome,” he said. “If they have any proposals, including power, they can present them to us as long as they are workable and doable.”
Despite erroneous and inconsistent meter readings, poor service, and higher electricity bills, as cited in the resolution earlier passed by the Iloilo City Council opposing the franchise renewal for PECO, the mayor noted, “Businessmen are putting their [companies] here because the city has [a] stable supply [of] electricity.”/PLL, WDJ
